Church Sound Technician Part 1

 

1. Vocal Training: Joel & Sallee Duntin

This workshop will give you practical tools to grow your voice and your confidence. From warm-ups to attitude to blending, we’ve got you covered!

+ About our instructor

Joel spent his early years in music studying performance at London College of Music. Sallee studied Music and Religion at Avondale College. They both love using music, innovation and media to tell stories of hope and bring people together.

 

2. Intermediate to Advanced Keys & Piano: Ron Koyanogi

This 1 hour will focus on improvisation, creating melodies and the heart and skill of worship. It will also go deeper into chords and voicing.

+ About our instructor

Ron is a classical pianist and has performed in jazz trio settings. Ron has played at Langley Vineyard for over thirteen years with leaders such as Brian Doerksen and Andy Park. He has a passion for building community and intimacy in worship.

 

3. Drums In Worship 101: Nate Korzan

In this workshop we will break down some myths about playing to a click (metronome). We will also discover the importance of communication and choosing the right groove.

+ About our instructor

Nate has been drumming for over 15 years. Whether in front of thousands or more intimate settings, he is constantly seeking new methods and techniques to improve his craft. Nate currently serves and leads worship at Village church.

 

4. Lead Guitar: Refine Your Skill & Sounds: David Olson

This workshop will cover how to take your playing and tone to the next level. We’ll dissect a song to help you develop your instincts for playing.

+ About our instructor

David is a musician, producer and live sound tech from Boring, Oregon. He plays guitar every week at Willamette Christian Church, a thriving multi-site church in Oregon. Additionally, David tours with artists like The Talbott Brothers and The Half Trees.

 

5. Church Sound Technician Part 1: Gareth Griffiths

This 2-part work shop will focus on how to mic singers and instruments as well as set up mains and monitors. It will also cover the importance of creating the best mix for worship.

+ About our instructor

Gareth began mixing at 10 years old and has never stopped. Since then he has mixed at the Grey Cup and studios including the Armoury and Bryan Adam's Warehouse. Gareth has a passion to mentor and train up and coming sound techs.

6. How to Lead Worship Effectively: Josh Jamieson

How can I be more effective as a worship leader? This session will give you practical tools to lead your congregation and your team on and off the stage.

+ About our instructor

Josh began worship leading and song writing at an early age. He serves as worship pastor at Church In The Valley and is currently pursuing a Masters of Worship at the Robert E. Webber Institute of worship.

 

7. Intro to Ableton Live, Multitracks, & In Ear Monitors: David Olson

We will provide an overview of how to run click, tracks, and IEMs for your church and how to make this transition as smooth as possible.

8. Understanding the Nashville Number System: Alex Toney

“One, Four, Five…” what do those numbers even mean? Learn to use the Nashville Number System for simplifying and arranging, band direction and make transposing a breeze!

+ About our instructor

Alex Toney has been an active musician and worship leader for over 15 years. He desires to see excellence of both heart and skill in our worship leading. Alex currently serves as Worship and Community Life Pastor at Pacific Community Church in Cloverdale.

11. Choosing A Set list: Ron Maitland & Jenna Robinson

This session will equip you with practical tools to craft a set list. Gain insight on how to consistently lead people to experience life-changing encounters with God.

+ About our instructor

Jenna has had a heart for worship from a young age, training under the likes of Hillsong United, Chris Tomlin and Kirk Franklin. Ron has spent decades building cultures of worship locally and internationally. He has also been a judge for the Juno Awards.

 

12. How to Have an Effective Rehearsal: Joel & Sallee Duntin

Worship rehearsals can be a battle of challenges and egos. Is it a democratic process? How do we invite and receive ideas without taking offence or feeling threatened? Learn this and many more simple but tested principles.

13. Relevance in Worship – Are we going to far?: Chin Injeti

Are the Lines being blurred in worship? How important is cultural relevance? Was Jesus relevant in his day? Join Chin as he answers these important questions.

+ About our instructor

Chin is a founding member of Juno Award-winning group Bass is Base. He frequently collaborates with producer DJ Khalil. Together they have written and produced songs for Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Drake and Pink. Injeti's work with Eminem and Lecrae has garnered 3 Grammy Awards.
